獲布蘭戴斯大學（Brandeis University）博士，目前是阿斯伯里神學院（Asbury Theological Seminary）舊約傑出教授，這是他第三度在該校任教。第一階段是1970-1982年，任舊約與閃語教授，1989至1999年再任舊約教授。他也曾任衛斯理聖經神學院（Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, Miss., 1999-2009）舊約研究教授，阿斯伯里學院（Asbury College, 1983-1986）院長，三一福音神學院（Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Ill., 1986－1989）舊約教授。歐思沃參與《新國際版》（New International Version）與《新普及譯本》（New Living Translation, 1996）的翻譯，著有11本書，也在學術期刊和一般雜誌發表許多文章。這套二冊的以賽亞書註釋是其代表作。
