George Marsden is an historian who has written extensively on the interaction between Christianity and American culture, particularly on Christianity in American higher education and on American Evangelicalism.
Marsden holds a B.A. from Haverford College (1959), a B.D. from Westminster Theological Seminary (1963), and an M.A. (1960) and Ph.D. (1965) from Yale University. He has taught at Calvin College (1965–1986) and Duke University (1986–1992), and currently he is the Francis A. McAnaney Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame. He has also been visiting professor at the University of California at Berkeley and St. Andrews University in Scotland. In response to Marsden's impending retirement, Notre Dame hired Mark Noll to replace him.
