就讀於劍橋大學唐寧學院（Downing College, Cambridge）。曾任UCCF大學秘書一職，之後在布里斯托的三一學院（Trinity College, Bristol）完成神學訓練，受教於莫德（J. Alec Motyer）和巴刻（J. I. Packer）。
1976年遷至南安普（Southampton），擔任Above Bar Church助理牧師。
1980年成為主任牧師，在該教會共服事十五年。
1991受路卡斯（Dick Lucas）之邀，在倫敦成立了康希爾培訓課程（Cornhill Training Course），其隸屬於The Proclamation Trust機構的事工，旨在訓練福音派傳道人在釋經、解經和溝通方面的能力。
2004-2009 擔任The Proclamation Trust主席。
目前參與該機構舉辦的傳道人會議，以及編制遠距教學教材和書籍，也擔任凱斯威克大會（Keswick Convention）及「活潑之道」（Word Alive）營會的講員。此外，在倫敦橡樹山神學院（Oak Hill Theological College）擔任客座講師，專注於自由教會（非英國聖公會教會）的福音事工。
傑克曼與妻子希瑟（Heather）擁有兩個孩子和四個孫兒女。
