1984年取得聯合大學神學院（Alliance University College，加拿大聖經學院的前身）神學學士。

1991年取得西敏神學院道碩學位

1996年取得劍橋大學博士學位。

曾在多倫多和費城擔任牧職，並在多倫多從事校園事工。

1994-2003年在Canadian Bible College and Theological Seminary任教。

目前在McMaster Divinity College擔任舊約教授及主任。

伯達博士有12本著述，編撰了19本論文集，發表超過100篇與舊約和閃族語言相關的論文。

與妻子貝絲（Beth）有三個兒子。
