本書收錄了郭實獵七部較具代表性的中文小說：

　　《贖罪之道傳》(1834)
　　《常活之道傳》(1834)
　　《是非□論》(1835)
　　《正邪比較》(1838)
　　《誨謨訓道》(1838)
　　《生命無限無疆》(1838)
　　《小信小福》(出版年份不詳)

　　《贖罪之道傳》於道光甲午年(1834)出版，此版本現為孤本，彌足珍貴。相較於1836年的修訂版，初版《贖罪之道傳》不但多出三回目，內容更與修訂版迥異，在角色與情節方面皆有出入。

　　《常活之道傳》主要講述清代儒者李端揮霍縱慾，後來被充軍而死於路上，而其子天賜後來歸信基督教。作者在內文論及當時佛教與民間場景，藉以闡釋基督教思想。

　　《是非□論》內容以小說式的對話問答描寫當時英國國情，以及中國人對英國人的刻板印象。將基督思想置入英國宗教文化中傳達。

　　《正邪比較》藉討論「我之心亦以何養之乎？」的中心問題，討論基督教救贖論思想。特別針對當時世人於的刻板印象進行扳正，並強調與政治社會的合作和貢獻。

　　《誨謨訓道》作者大力批評時弊，描寫民間犯罪與中國社會腐敗。筆觸深刻，呈現外國宣教士操作基督教漢語作品時的特殊視野。

　　《生命無限無疆》全書講述的是廣州商人李令與朋友劉岱討論死亡與永生的問題。其中藉著臨終對答及喪儀的場景，傳遞基督教末世觀，在問答詞句中展現作者對人們在死亡恐懼上的深度關懷。

　　《小信小福》針對當時的社會思想進行批判，內容涉及許多異教神明、敬禮儀式的描繪，並以基督教教義貫通儒家思想，極富基督教漢語作品特色。

　　蒐集本書文獻的過程歷經走訪海內外各大圖書館，其中《贖罪之道傳》1834年版與《小信小福》都來自荷蘭萊頓大學東亞圖書館孤本，其餘作品現於市面也難得一見。此外本書更針對每部作品重新標點、分段及注釋。詳列內文參照之文獻，特別著重與聖經相關互文，讀者藉此得覽十九世紀中文聖經譯本之風貌。
